Kathryn Turner, better known as Fancy to her friends, does not see herself pursuing a journalism career. Instead, it is a hobby that she is passionate about.
Like many other campers, she hopes to further her journalism knowledge in July at KEMPA Summer Journalism Workshop.
Turner joined the yearbook staff at Harborside Academy in Kenosha, Wis. as a sophomore.
"I guess I became interested in journalism as a sophomore when I signed up to be in yearbook with hopes of meeting new people and facing new challenges," Turner said.
These challenges can sometimes seem daunting, but Turner does not let them slow her down. As an rising junior, her goal is to obtain an editor position by her senior year.
As a first time attendee of KEMPA SJW, Turner is looking to use the opportunity to improve her photography and writing skills. She noted that these are essential skills to producing a successful yearbook.
While thoughts of journalism may occupy much of her time, Turner is also interested in a few other hobbies.
“I love to read," Turner said. "My favorite author is Cassandra Clare. I also love listening to music and hanging out with my friends. Oh, and I am addicted to the internet.”
