The Basics: Katie Bandurski
Homestead High School (Class of 2014)
Drake University (Class of 2018) - Magazine Journalism and Theatre
What's your past experience with KEMPA and what did you learn?
I attended the summer workshop at the end of my sophomore year of high school and then I attended the fall conference during the fall of my junior year. After being at KEMPA or any other journalism convention, it was great seeing young minds with similar passions as you. Seeing kids as motivated as I am is really inspiring.
Why did you decide to come back as an intern?
My high school journalism advisor, Rachel Rauch, is on the advisory board and she asked me if I would be interested.
What lessons did you take away as former editor-in-chief of your high school paper, The Highlander?
Lots of leadership skills, time management, and dealing with having the weight of the publication on your shoulders.
Dream job, if there were no restrictions?
Editor-in-Chief of a magazine like Time.
Fun-fact about you?
I've been an vegetarian for seven years. It's partially because of ethical reasons in terms of animal treatment but I also just don't like meat.
