BY JESSICA SHERWIN Halley Erin Marie Kenney, senior at Lakes Community High School (LCHS) in Lake Villa, Ill., hopes to sharpen her journalism skills at KEMPA Summer Journalism Workshop.
Kenney is currently a staff reporter for LCHS’ newspaper, The Talon Times. KEMPA Summer Journalism Workshop will be Kenney's first workshop, and her main objective is to learn photography tips and social media strategies while in Whitewater.
Kenney’s journalistic experience ranges from writing opinion pieces to writing spring fashion columns and movie reviews. She is looking forward to the new school year, in which she will be the Social Media Coordinator for The Talon Times.
As the Social Media Coordinator, Kenney will run the publication's social media accounts. She will post on behalf of the publication, interact with followers, and help bring traffic to The Talon Times’ website and quarterly newsmagazine.
Kenney is looking toward her plans after high school. She is considering schools in California, Colorado and Iowa, but remains undecided on her major.
Her dream job is to be an art director on a film set, but she can also see herself going into public relations.
Kenney hopes to use her creativity in her career path, and accordingly, Kenney’s favorite aspect of journalism is “the creativity of it, but also that it makes a person more knowledgeable about things happening around the world.”
